Who I work with
Some people arrive with something specific — a loss, a diagnosis, a relationship coming apart. Others arrive because things look fine from the outside and don't feel that way from the inside. Both are good reasons.
I work with adults who are carrying more than they let on: the ones who hold things together for everyone else, who apologize for taking up time, who have been meaning to do this for a while. There's no version of your situation that's too small to bring here.
Healing happens in relationship — which is why the fit between us matters more than any technique.
Emily Barbosa, [LMHC]What to expect
Most people's anxiety about therapy is really anxiety about the unknown. So here's the whole thing, in order.
Fifteen minutes, free. You tell me roughly what's going on, I tell you how I work, and we both decide whether to go further. Plenty of people talk to two or three therapists before choosing. That's normal and I won't take it personally.
Consent forms and a brief history, sent by secure link so the first session isn't spent on a clipboard.
Mostly you talking and me listening. I'll ask what brought you now, and what you'd want to be different. You are never obligated to answer a question. "I'm not ready to talk about that" is a complete sentence here.
We'll name one or two things worth working on, and I'll be straight with you about whether I'm the right person. If someone else would serve you better, I'll say so and help you find them.
Weekly to start for most people, moving to every other week as things settle. You can stop at any point without explaining why.
